The University of Canterbury (UC) is planning to replace its existing fluoroscopy system at the UC Rose Centre for Stroke Recovery and Research.
The fluoroscopy system is a critical clinical and research tool used to undertake video fluoroscopic Swallowing Studies (VFSS), the internationally recognised gold-standard assessment for swallowing disorders. The system enables real-time visualisation of swallowing biomechanics and supports specialist clinical assessment, translational research, teaching, and advanced clinical training.
The current fluoroscopy unit is over ten years old and no longer adequately meets the Centre’s clinical, research, and teaching requirements. Key limitations include restricted recording duration, inefficient image processing workflows, limited interoperability, and reduced capability to support contemporary VFSS protocols.
The replacement system will restore and enhance the Centre’s capability to provide specialist swallowing assessments for both adult and paediatric populations while supporting ongoing research, teaching, and collaboration activities.
