The University of Canterbury is planning to acquire a High Resolution Manometry System (HRM) to strengthen its research infrastructure and capability.
This system is a diagnostic and research instrument used to measure pharyngeal and upper oesophageal sphincter pressures with exceptional precision. It enables visualisation of swallowing physiology and pathophysiology in ways that are not possible through other imaging modalities.
This project will enhance critical diagnostic and treatment capability for patients with swallowing disorders (dysphagia) and enable the UC Rose Centre’s national research leadership in the field. Hospitals and clinicians across New Zealand refer patients to the Centre for assessment and biofeedback therapy, and the equipment is integral to both service delivery and ongoing research collaborations with other disciplines, including gastroenterology.
