A Summary of this Opportunity
What we need
The University of Canterbury (“the University”) is seeking to engage a qualified Mechanical Contractor for the Main Works Contract related to the Medium Temperature Hot Water (MTHW) upgrades for the Ilam Campus to service the new Takurua (Recreation Centre) facility. This project involves the supply, installation, and commissioning of heating infrastructure upgrades, including decoupling, pipe reconfiguration, and system extensions, to support the University’s broader campus thermal systems.
The high-level scope for the MTHW component includes:
RecCentre MTHW Branch Upgrade:
* Decouple the existing MTHW branch serving the RecCentre using a plate heat exchanger.
* Upgrade the primary supply pipework and related valves from the boiler in the plantroom.
* Install duty and standby recirculating pumps for the new secondary MTHW circuit.
* Implement all necessary electrical and control system upgrades.
RecCentre MTHW Header Extension and Reconfiguration:
* Extend and reconfigure the existing MTHW header at the RecCentre to support new pumps and accommodate the updated plant layout.
* Construct a lightweight structural support for the extended header.
* Reconfigure in-ground MTHW pipework (Insapipe) locally to align with the new plant layout and connect to relocated or additional equipment.
* Complete al related electrical and control system upgrades to support equipment relocation, allowing for future additional pumps.
Meremere Building Decoupling:
* Decouple the Meremere Building from the primary MTHW system using a plate heat exchanger.
* Install duty and standby recirculating pumps for the secondary MTHW circuit.
* Add pumps to assist with discharging and recharging the thermal storage tank.
* Complete all related electrical and control system upgrades.
