The Forestry Workshop building (FO03) is one of four buildings which make up the University
of Canterbury Forestry School. The Facilities Maintenance workshop (GS22) is one of 4 buildings which make up the Facilities Maintenance compound. Both buildings are single storey building with a rectangular footprint of approximately 27m by 23m. The buildings were originally constructed in 1969 and 1966 respectively with Forestry extended in 1995. In the main area of these buildings is a workshop with timber processing machines. Both workshops have existing extract systems (wood dust) which consists of an external fan with an associated duct system which runs through the general workshop area and grinding room, branching off in eight locations to service several saws, planers a sander and a floor sweep. There is also a separate extract system for the grinding room in forestry.

Based on testing, the ventilation system operates at the upper limit of what the current system can provide. It also highlighted that the issue is being exacerbated by the fact the workshop utilisation has increased significantly as part of a new wood processing programme, where students are now using more machines along with staff members at any one time.

WHAT WE REQUIRE: THE SOLUTION

We seek the services of a main contractor to carry out the following works:

1. A main contractor to supply and install the dust extract system, inclusive of concrete slab for the collector unit and associated works.
2. A contractor that has a proven track record of working with clients to achieve the required outcomes
3. A contractor capable of working within the University’s unique environment
4. A contractor that can deliver high quality material outcomes to the University
5. Other works and services:

b. As-built records (if any)
c. Warranties (materials & workmanship)
d. Producer Statements for works carried out
