The University of Canterbury (UC) is currently finalising its Student Accommodation Strategy that forecasts demand for an additional 800 beds over the next 10 years. Accommodation will comprise a mix of types and configurations with a focus on adaptable and flexible approaches to satisfy a range of student preferences and stages of maturity over the next 30 years.

UC is interested to undertake a single market exercise through which to secure third party funding, development and maintenance of the proposed accommodation.

We anticipate entering into separate, shorter term operating agreement/s for the purpose of managing the operation of the accommodation (i.e. marketing, residential care, catering etc).

The final structure and approach of any procurement activity will be informed by the responses and feedback gained through this NoI.

The purpose of this Notice of Intent (Notice) is twofold:
1. To provide early information to the market on the long term student accommodation plans of the University and
2. To invite registrations of interest from prospective investors, developers and facility operators so the University can gauge the nature and extent of interest in the upcoming opportunity.

It also provides an opportunity for written comment on the prospective procurement approach along with perspectives on the critical success factors for such a development.

To avoid any doubt, this Notice of Intent is not in itself an undertaking by the University to proceed with a procurement of the nature described in this Notice, or any procurement at all.
