The New Zealand Government is considering changes to how its structural policies, including through the Crown Research Institute Review, to upgrade innovation capabilities throughout the economy. One of the key factors that has driven growth in other high income countries has been the how they have invested in research, science and innovation, as it can can increase productivity, raise the value of products, improve systems, support diversification, create high value jobs and improve social and environmental well-being.

MPI requires research to be undertaking to identify how other countries with high value plant sectors have have structured their RSI funding to minimise or overcome the five barriers to faster growth of New Zealand’s plant sector
