Overview:	The Primary Sector Growth Fund (PSGF) provides support on a co-investment basis to help primary sector businesses, industry bodies, and other groups to: - leverage opportunities or address problems - create benefits for New Zealand and themselves. Proposals may cover multiple aspects of the food and fibre sector’s value chain — new products, technology and services, or new ways of operating, producing, marketing, handling and distributing. The primary purpose of a project could be economic, environmental, social, or cultural. However, applications must show us how success in the project will enable direct economic benefits for the food and fibre sectors in New Zealand more broadly. The PSGF will not fund projects that an organisation or company would be expected to complete as part of its core business. Overview:	This project is to provide the services required to develop a DNA barcode reference database for plant parasitic nematodes verified by morphological analysis. The identification of plant parasitic nematodes using DNA sequencing alone is often inconclusive due to a lack of reference sequence data, including for those nematodes which are already known to be present in New Zealand. The development of a verified DNA sequence database for plant parasitic nematodes will speed up nematology diagnostics, and reduce reliance on nematodes expressing their required morphological characters. We will provide support to the provider with regards to host selection and coordination at a national level.

Overview:	The AgEC and AgriZeroNZ invite Expressions of Interest (EoI) from innovators worldwide to develop transformative agricultural greenhouse gas mitigation solutions or substantially advance emerging technologies with the potential to deliver practical, farm-level outcomes for New Zealand farmers and growers. Preference will be given to proposals that explore novel concepts, mechanisms, or technologies beyond well-established research areas and demonstrate a credible pathway to emissions reduction, adoption, and deployment at scale within a commercially relevant timeframe. As part of this round, ideas are welcomed that specifically address the following research challenges: 1) the development of biological and soil-management technologies that reduce N₂O emissions by both enhancing N₂O consumption (reduction of N₂O to dinitrogen, N₂) and preventing the accumulation of nitrite (NO₂⁻), a key precursor of N₂O formation. Technologies must be able to be applied at scale and suitable for NZ pastoral systems i.e., nitrous oxide emissions from urine patches. 2) the development of robust, routine in situ approaches for quantifying the key intermediaries and processes governing N₂O emissions under urine patch conditions. This includes accurate measurement of N₂ production and/or nitrous oxide reductase (nosZ) activity, as well as nitrite formation, pool sizes, and concentration dynamics. 3) If your idea doesn’t fit into one of the above challenges, we are still interested in submissions if they address novel approaches to reducing nitrous oxide emissions from ruminant animal deposited urine and/or methane emissions from enteric fermentation that can rapidly bring about a step-change in emissions at scale in grazing ruminants, and where investment could accelerate or unblock barriers to commercialisation. The two step tending process is open to New Zealand and international organisations to apply. Co-funding in strongly encouraged. Organisations can submit a full proposal or for ideas that are focussed on feasibility and may not have a full team assembled yet, a ideas proposal can be submitted. Overview:	The invasive freshwater clam or Corbicula (Corbicula fluminea) was first detected in the Waikato River in 2023. This clam is considered one of the most significant freshwater biosecurity threats in New Zealand. Recreational and commercial equipment can act as vectors, facilitating the spread of Corbicula to uninvaded areas. A key challenge for Corbicula management is the lack of quantitative, New Zealand-specific evidence on the relative risks posed by many different vectors. Building on existing international and domestic research, this project will quantify and compare the transport potential associated with representative vectors operating in New Zealand. The findings will inform the development of a national vector-risk framework and support development of standard operating protocols (SOPs) and operational guidance for the high-risk vectors, enabling more targeted and effective Corbicula management and control in New Zealand.

Overview:	Why the grant was established The Poultry Biosecurity Grant helps commercial poultry operators with fewer than 100,000 birds improve on-farm biosecurity and prepare for H5 bird flu. Strong biosecurity is one of the best ways to protect poultry from disease and reduce the risk of spread of H5 bird flu. The grant supports practical improvements on poultry and egg farms. It will help protect poultry businesses, jobs, livelihoods, and New Zealand's food supply. The government has committed $1.5 million to the grant, which was developed in partnership with the poultry industry and builds on existing preparedness work. How the grant will support poultry and egg operators Applications are open until 1 November 2026. The grant covers work completed on or after 28 July 2026. Strong on-farm biosecurity is one of our best defences against H5 bird flu and will help manage and prevent spread if it does reach poultry. Grant funding will support practical improvements that make a measurable enhancement to on-farm biosecurity, including: - infrastructure like fencing, storage areas, quarantine sheds - controlled entry points - bird-proofing measures - cleaning and disinfecting facilities. Our application guideline has a full list of eligible infrastructure improvements. You can apply for a grant if you: -are a commercial poultry operator -are a member of the Poultry Industry Association of New Zealand (PIANZ) or Egg Producers Federation (EPF) or operators who raise birds under a formal agreement with an EPF or PIANZ member. -have fewer than 100,000 birds.
