Overview

The Fisheries Change Programme is working to ensure the sustainable economic, social, and cultural value of New Zealand's fisheries. This is being achieved through electronic catch and position reporting (ER/GPR) and on-board cameras.

In 2019, 20 fishing vessels were fitted with on-board cameras in areas that posed the highest risk to Maui dolphins off the West Coast of the North Island.

It is proposed that on-board cameras be rolled out further across the inshore fishing fleet (around 345 vessels), to aid the transition to a more sustainable and prosperous seafood sector.

Planning is underway for this next stage of cameras and is subject to business case approval. The requirements are likely to be outcome focused as opposed to being highly specified.

This is a Future Procurement Opportunity (FPO). A FPO has replaced the Annual Procurement Plan information previously available to suppliers on MBIE’s website. A FPO is an alert to suppliers of potential upcoming procurement activity. It does not represent a commitment by MPI to procure, but provides an indication to the market about the potential future activity.

Suppliers can subscribe to this FPO, and MPI may use this list to assist with market research. When the RFP is released, the FPO will be linked to the RFP so that those suppliers who have subscribed to the FPO will get automatically notified of the RFP being released.
