The New Zealand Government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), is partnering with the Government of Niue to strengthen public financial management, accountability, and governance across all departments and state entities. As part of this work, MFAT and the Government of Niue are seeking an experienced Internal Auditor to lead financial audits, strengthen internal control frameworks, and help build capability across government.
This role is based in Alofi and contracted directly to MFAT. It is a senior technical advisory position working alongside the Niue Prime Minister’s Office, Treasury, and the Office of the Auditor‑General to uplift performance and mitigate risks across government financial processes.
This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned auditor who enjoys working autonomously, supporting reform, and delivering credible and practical advice within a small-state environment. If you are values‑driven, culturally adaptable, and committed to strengthening financial governance, we encourage you to apply.
The initial assignment will be for one year, with two two-year extension options (for a maximum total of five years). The successful candidate will be expected to be based primarily in Niue, particularly at key stages of the financial year, in order to conduct audits and undertake capacity development activities.
The successful appointee will be expected to operate professionally, uphold MFAT’s requirements for conduct while working overseas, and work respectfully within Niue’s cultural and institutional context.
Closing date for applications: 5:00pm (NZ Time) on Sunday 5th April 2026
