Overview

This is a Future Procurement Opportunity (FPO). It is an alert to providers of a potential upcoming procurement activity. It does not represent a commitment by MFAT to procure.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has a business need to procure and store humanitarian relief supplies that can be dispatched at short notice for use in an emergency response. Our offshore response work saves lives and is an important part of the support provided by the International Development Cooperation (IDC) Programme.

MFAT released an RFI in July to gather information on potential solutions for the logistics of humanitarian relief supplies. This would include procurement of supplies on behalf of MFAT, picking and packing of supplies, storage, transportation to designated departure locations, stock management; and handling of all associated documentation, including dangerous goods and customs requirements. We received some great information that is helping us develop our requirements and approach to the market.

We are excited to be progressing this work and will be seeking capable and committed suppliers to help deliver this critical service. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in New Zealand’s humanitarian support to the Pacific and South East Asia — work that directly contributes to saving lives and strengthening resilience in our region.

We plan to run an open Request for Proposal (RFP) process which is expected to be released around March/April 2026.
