Overview

The New Zealand Government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), is partnering with the Government of Tuvalu to strengthen the management of Tuvalu’s fisheries resources. As part of this, MFAT and the Tuvalu Fisheries Authority (TFA) are seeking a Tuvalu Fisheries Adviser (Offshore) to provide technical assistance and capacity development support to the TFA, helping to maximise sustainable benefits from Tuvalu’s rich marine resources.

This role will be based in Funafuti, contracted directly to MFAT and will commence in February 2026. The initial assignment will be for three years, with potential extensions up to 2030.

It is a senior technical advisory position working alongside the TFA Managing Director and will support the implementation of TFA’s workplans, corporate planning, and regional obligations. You will work closely with stakeholders across government, regional organisations, and communities to ensure the success of Tuvalu’s fisheries sector.

This role is ideal for a seasoned technical adviser with a deep understanding of offshore fisheries management and a commitment to sustainable development. If you are proactive, culturally sensitive, and passionate about building capacity in Pacific institutions, we encourage you to apply.

Closing date for applications: 5:00pm (NZ Time) on Monday 10 November 2025.
