Overview

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) is looking for a Fisheries Compliance Adviser to support Federated States of Micronesia's (FSM) National Oceanic Resource Management Authority (NORMA). The adviser is expected to deliver a programme of work to improve the capacity of FSM staff to manage and develop their offshore fisheries, and improve systems for monitoring, control, surveillance, and enforcement activities in FSM’s Exclusive Economic Zone.

This role will appeal if you are interested in being part of a programme that directly contributes to the enhancement of local communities in The Federated States of Micronesia. The initial assignment will be for a maximum of 70 working days total, with a minimum of 40 days to be based in Pohnpei between January 2024 - December 2024.

Working closely with the Executive Director of NORMA you will be required to build positive and productive relationships with local counterparts and stakeholders. You will have the ability to recognise the importance of stakeholder engagement; be self-managing and work independently; be highly organised and have self-motivated structured programme and reporting work habits and understand and respect the culture and diversity of the environment. This is an important technical advisory position with the NORMA, the appointee will therefore be expected to adhere to the professional standards of a senior technical advisor and maintain integrity, objectivity and political neutrality during the assignment.

Closing date for applications: 5:00pm (NZ Time) on Friday 20th October 2023.
