New Zealand Government support programme
Remote working, with occasional travel when Covid restrictions allow
The New Zealand Government has partnered with the Government of Tuvalu to provide specialist assistance to the Tuvalu Fisheries Department (TFD) in implementing the goals of the TFD Corporate Plan and building capacity in the TFD's coastal fisheries division.
The key functions of this role are to:
Ensure that the Coastal Fisheries Sections implements its priorities under the Corporate Plan
Support the implementation of coastal fisheries activities under the new New Zealand funded Tuvalu Fisheries Support Programme, which include recruiting, training and deploying Community Fisheries Officers in each island and implementing community fisheries projects
Build the capacity of the laboratory service and produce a training needs assessment
Advise on and assist with aquaculture projects, expected to include milkfish farming, extensive culture in enclosed ponds/lagoons, and the hatchery production of giant clams for re-stocking,
Provide support and contribute to improved management of the Division through better communications and teamwork.
