The New Zealand Government is partnering with the Government of Kiribati to provide a Technical Adviser to design a new Project Management Unit, that will implement plans for climate-related land reclamation. This work is part of an activity to build Kiribati's resilience to climate change.
The main outcomes to be achieved by this Activity are:
- The establishment of a fit-for-purpose Project Management Unit that can effectively support Government of Kiribati to progress the land-reclamation project.
- The Government of Kiribati is equipped to implement coherent, strategic, and evidence-based responses to the risks and impacts of climate change.
- Improved urban environment and use of limited land in South Tarawa.
Given the COVID-19 pandemic the Technical Adviser will start when it becomes possible to travel to Kiribati. The assignment will be for a period of up to 3 months, with approximately 2 months in country.
