Overview

• Part-time over 22 months, 13 calendar days per month
• Start date in Honiara, mid-February 2018
• New Zealand Government assistance programme

The New Zealand Government has a strong, long-term partnership with the Solomon Islands Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR), which has contributed directly to improved capabilities and confidence within the Ministry and a better managed, more productive and more compliant fisheries sector. New Zealand’s current phase of bilateral support to MFMR is delivered under the Mekem Strong Solomon Islands Fisheries (MSSIF) Programme. MSSIF is a combination of Technical advisory support and grant funding against an annual work plan, this five year program is nearing the completion of its third year of implementation and will be independently reviewed in 2018. MSSIF focus areas are offshore fisheries (monitoring and compliance), inshore fisheries (aqua farming), strengthening corporate services within the Ministry (supporting a restructure) and facilitating foreign investment (tuna processing). MFMR has a broad mandate including negotiating tuna fishing days and licences with Nations that fish in Solomon waters, producing policy and legislation, monitoring and compliance, planning, research and delivery of new initiatives.
The MSSIF Programme Team Leader will support MFMR to achieve its goals and targets through the delivery of the annual MSSIF work plan, which is aligned and complementary to the Ministries annual implementation and corporate plans.
