Overview

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) is holding a Market Open Day for any tertiary institute interested in providing New Zealand-based tertiary scholarships to international students from developing countries, as part of the New Zealand Aid Programme. The outcomes of the Scholarship Programme are to provide a platform for international students and Alumni to positively impact their home countries development over time and strengthen our connections in regions of strategic significance.

There are currently 1,350 scholarship recipients in New Zealand studying qualifications ranging from undergraduate degrees and diplomas at level 7 on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF) to Masters and PhDs, delivered across ten tertiary institutes. The contracts with our current providers expire in June 2018. The budget for delivery of the New Zealand-based tertiary scholarships programme, over the next six years is estimated to be close to $600 million. MFAT anticipates engaging the market via GETS early in 2018 for its New Zealand-based tertiary scholarships programme, with a view to having contracts in place by June 2018.

Please note that we are targeting tertiary institutes that meet the following criteria for attendance at the Market Open Day:
• Must have a permanent, New Zealand-based campus in New Zealand, delivering to international students, for at least three full academic years;
• Must be delivering programmes or qualifications at level 7 to level 10 on the NZQF;
• Must be signatories to the Education (Pastoral Care of International Students) Code of Conduct; and
• Provide qualifications that align with MFAT’s priority investment sectors:
 Agriculture - flagship priority
 Renewable energy - flagship priority
 Information and Communications Technology
 Economic Governance
 Health
 Education
 Tourism
 Law and Justice
 Humanitarian response

 Resilience

The Market Open Day is scheduled for Tuesday 12 December 2017 at Te Wharewaka O Poneke, 2 Taranaki St, Wellington, 6011, Wellington, from 10.00am to 2.30pm.
