NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) are undertaking major road improvements of State Highway 29 (SH29) at Tauriko.
NZTA has been working with partner organisations Tauranga City Council (TCC), Western Bay of Plenty District Council, Bay of Plenty Regional Council, Te Kauae a Roopu, SmartGrowth since 2017 with the establishment of the ‘Tauriko for Tomorrow’ project, which
focuses on development in the Tauriko West area. Of relevance to this project, the transport improvements include a new four-lane SH29 from Redwood Lane to the new Takitimu North Link Interchange, with overbridges at Tauriko Village and Cambridge Road.
The realignment and construction of a new road along SH29 will run through the existing Tauriko School. This means that Tauriko School will need to be relocated to allow for the SH29 improvements. Agreements are in place between NZTA and the Ministry and land acquisition has been agreed in principle. The new school site will be of a size to accommodate a build roll capacity of 360 and masterplan roll capacity of 630 in the long term.
The new school site will initially contain:
• 15 teaching spaces
• A school hall
• Two playgrounds
• Netball court
• Swimming pool and changing rooms
• Carparking
• Admin building
The hall and admin building are to be designed and built to masterplan roll and the site infrastructure will also be required to be designed and cater to the masterplan roll size. It is explicitly reiterated that the school needs to be moved and ready to occupy by Term 1 2029. Therefore the intention is for practical completion to be no later than November 2028.
