Portable modular classrooms (PMCs) were an effective solution used between 1960’s to 1970’s to alleviate roll growth pressure in the Hawkes Bay and Gisborne region. There is an inherent intention by the Ministry to remediate, replace or dispose of aged Hawkes Bay and Gisborne/Tairawhiti PMCs. There is also the need to upgrade existing associated infrastructure with Mechanical, Electrical and 3 Waters services which may no longer be fit for purpose, as well as services that were housed in these areas (like boiler rooms, garages, and toilet blocks).
The group of Schools, consisting of 12 Major Capital Projects within Hawkes Bay and Gisborne, are to be replaced in a programme of works across seven to eight years. This approach is intended to ensure best value for the region and incorporate wider social outcomes.
The preferred Tenderer/s will be acting as the Quantity Surveyor for a Programme of works as descried above. The design solution for each school is based on a mix of reference design and Offsite Manufactured Building (OMB) solutions.
