e. The Project background is:
i. Andersons Bay School is a contributing primary (Years 1-6) located at 92 Jeffrey Street, Dunedin. The site has complex, sloping topography composed of a series of terraced platforms supported by retaining walls and is surrounded by steep terrain. The site is further constrained by the existing building locations leaving limited options for new building placement, and limited contractor access.
ii. The School is a full archaeological site; an Archaeological Authority has been obtained from Heritage NZ and a full briefing with the Ministry’s appointed archaeologist will be held prior to works commencing.
iii. Block 3 (hall) is a pre-1900s building and not fit for purpose; Block 6 (prefab 2 x teaching space building) is in extremely poor condition. Both blocks are to be demolished and replaced with one new build encompassing both functions.
