i. Seddon School has experienced an expanding roll in recent years and so as part of Budget 19, one new teaching space was allocated to this school. The school are currently using their library as a classroom so additional teaching space is needed.
ii. The project involves demolition of the existing resource room attached to Block A to make space for a new teaching space block on the same footprint. The resource room has poor inherit design features (flat roof and asbestos cladding) and the school are over the SPG entitlement for resource space and therefore, this is deemed the most appropriate solution for the new build.
iii. The design of the new classroom connects into the corner of block A to suit the school pedagogy and will architecturally match in with the buildings on site. As standard, the new classroom project will also involve connecting into the site wide water, power, fibre and fire/security infrastructure services.
iv. There is an expectation with the school that the new classroom will be available to use for Term 4, 2022. At the time of writing, the detailed design package has been issued to Marlborough District Council for Building Consent approval. Building Consent approval is expected to be achieved during the main contractor tender period.
v. The project risk includes but are not limited to asbestos removal work, breaking into an existing building to form a new connection and on-going risk with covid-19 lockdown delays and material supply chain issues. The school power is also nearly at capacity, though phase 3 power is available within their hall so long-distance trenching/ducts will be necessary to the new classroom.
vi. The school currently have a proposed ILE upgrade to be complete early next year within Block C and also involves some window replacements to Block A.

a. MOE Delivery Manager/ Project Manager: Jonathan Stewart
b. Engineer to the Contract: TBC
c. Quantity Surveyor: RLB
d. Lead Designer: Redbox Architects

f. Asbestos Consultant: Smart Alliances
