The project is to construct a new swimming pool complex for the Blind and Low Vision Education Network New Zealand (BLENNZ) on an existing carpark site on the western side of the school. The swimming pool complex will be a covered building containing two heated pool (one swimming pool and a smaller hydrotherapy pool), toilet and changing facilities, a small gymnasium and some site work in the form of paving.
The building area will be approximately 630 square metres. It is anticipated the main contractor will work in conjunction with a specialist swimming pool subcontractor. The construction site is flat with independent vehicle access away from the school and with a large area available for vehicle parking, material storage and a temporary construction office. Construction is expected to start around November 2019 and be completed around July 2020.
BLENNZ will be constructing a new carparking area which is adjacent and separate to the new swimming pool site. At this time the intention is to complete construction of the new carpark area prior to the new swimming pool construction starting. However it’s possible there may be some overlap between the two projects. If this occurs, the swimming pool contractors will be expected to work collaboratively with the carpark civil contractor.
