Dear Suppliers

This is an update to the GETS Advance Notice “#21825013 - Free and Healthy School Lunches – Otago/ Southland Region, Term 2 2020” that was released on the 23rd October 2019.

We had initially anticipated the tender to go live in late November, closing in January 2020. However, there has been a delay and we apologise for this inconvenience. We are aiming to release the tender by the end of this week or first week of January, with a closing date in early February 2020.

We will conduct a Supplier briefing in the Dunedin and/or Invercargill in mid-January to talk you through the tender requirements and give you an opportunity to ask questions. We plan on having 15 minute slots available where you can speak directly to a Ministry Procurement Leader with your specific questions. The Procurement Leader will not assist in completing your response form, but will help you understand what is required. Unless the questions are commercially sensitive, common questions and answers will be recorded and shared with all parties subscribed to the tender notice.

Please note also that there has been a change to the nutritional guidance for the programme. As part of the new Healthy Active Learning initiative (https://sportnz.org.nz/focus-areas/healthy-active-learning/the-initiative/), the Ministry of Health has reviewed and updated its food and nutrition guidance for education settings. The new guidance will supersede Fuelled4Life from February 2020. Fuelled4Life is the brand name of its previous guidance - the Food and Beverage Classification System which was developed in 2007 and will be retired in February 2020.

The new guidance aligns with the National Healthy Food and Drink Policy for District Health Boards, but is adapted to meet the needs of children with the aim of creating consistent messages across a range of settings. There have been three rounds of consultation on the draft guidance throughout 2019. The near final draft of the guidance is attached. We do not expect any major changes to the nutrition content, however it has yet to be formatted and laid out.

As this is a new programme to the Ministry and we are still testing and refining implementation, we really appreciate your patience with us.
