Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking to establish a sustainable, community-based urgent and after-hours service that improves access to healthcare for the Taupō community outside standard business hours. The service is expected to align with the National After-Hours and Urgent Care Framework and support improved access to urgent care, diagnostics, and medicines closer to home.
The opportunity is expected to be of interest to providers with experience delivering urgent care, primary healthcare, integrated community-based services, rural health services, and services that support equitable health outcomes. Providers will be expected to work collaboratively across the local health system, including primary care, hospital services, ambulance services, Hauora Māori providers, and other community partners.
The procurement will seek proposals that demonstrate sustainable service delivery, workforce capability, quality service provision, integration across the health system, and a commitment to improving health outcomes for the Taupō population. The intention is to run an open Request for Proposal (RFP) process to procure urgent care and after-hours service in Taupō catchment. When the process commences, potential respondents will be able to submit a proposal that demonstrates how their proposal meets the criteria of RFP.
Indicative timeframes: The full submission criteria and RFP process will be published on GETS in November 2026.
Note: This is a Future Procurement Opportunity (FPO). It is an alert to providers of a potential upcoming procurement activity, though it does not represent a commitment by Health New Zealand to procure.
When the RFP is live, interested providers will only be able to ask questions via GETS and answers will only be published via GETS. The RFP will provide information about how providers can ask questions.
