This is an opportunity to participate with Health NZ – Waitematā to upgrade the present infrastructure and deliver a flagship decarbonisation project at the North Shore Hospital. This project would provide demonstrable experience with integrating heat pumps to provide carbon emission reductions – a growing area of interest for many sectors and industries.
North Shore Hospital has identified an opportunity to install high-temperature heat pumps to provide all duty heating for the heating hot water circuit. This is intended to fully offset the load on the existing natural gas-fired hot water boilers, eliminating the natural gas use and associated emissions of these hot water boilers, and reducing net energy costs for the hospital. The existing hot water boilers are approaching end-of-life and are intended to be retired once the heat pumps are operational and performance is proven. The chilled water chillers have also been identified as approaching end of life, presenting the opportunity for both systems to be replaced (partially or as a whole).
