As part of the Peers in Emergency Department (ED) initiative, Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is looking for interested service providers that will provide experienced peer support specialists that will work alongside clinicians to ensure a holistic and comprehensive approach that address the needs of people who present to Emergency Department (EDs) with mental health and addiction needs.
A trial of peer support services was launched in 2024, starting with five largest hospital emergency departments. In 2025, the initiative expands to include Tauranga Hospital. The service delivery is scheduled to begin in October 2025, with the service provider expected to improve outcomes for those who seek crisis support for challenges with mental health and addictions presenting to Tauranga Hospital Emergency Department (ED) while freeing up more time for clinical staff to manage clinical work.
The full submission criteria and RFP process will be published on GETS in June 2025.
Note: This is a Future Procurement Opportunity (FPO). It is an alert to providers of a potential upcoming procurement activity. It does not represent a commitment by Health NZ to procure. Prior to the RFP being published on GETS, interested respondents can ask questions and responses will be published on the website at regular intervals until the RFP is live on GETS. When the RFP is live, respondents will only be able to ask questions via GETS and answers will only be published via GETS. The RFP will provide information about how respondents can ask questions.
