Overview

Te Whatu Ora, working in partnership with Te Aka Whai Ora, is seeking registrations from primary and community healthcare providers interested in establishing and delivering models of gender-affirming healthcare tailored to the needs of transgender and non-binary people.

Services that help people to affirm their gender are considered gender-affirming healthcare. This includes, but is not limited to:
• initiation and/or maintenance of gender-affirming hormone therapy
• hair removal
• rongoā Māori
• voice therapy

Community Driven Models of Care (CDMC) may operate on a local, regional, or national level.

We are looking to select four providers to deliver CDMC. Of these four providers, we are looking to select a minimum of two Māori and/or Pacific providers.

We appreciate that the gender-affirming healthcare needs of communities may differ. We are looking for primary and community healthcare providers who know the communities they work with and can recognise their communities’ need for gender-affirming care, as well as their own capacity to meet these needs.

It is expected that providers will have strong relationships with trans, non-binary, takatāpui and/or MVPFAFF+ communities. We want decisions around the provision of gender-affirming healthcare to be driven by service users and support improved health outcomes for trans and non-binary communities.

A Registration of Interest (ROI) will be the first step in a two-step process to select successful providers. Providers shortlisted based on their ROI response will be invited to respond to a request for proposal.
