Overview

The Department has opportunities for medical practitioners. The Department envisages contracting these medical officer services as a provider contract and not as an employment agreement. There are two general types of medical officer services in the scope of this procurement activity:

1) Medical officer services for the Mt Eden Corrections Facility in Auckland; estimated hours are 16 hours per week

2) Locum type medical officer services to provide cover for seventeen sites across the whole country; estimated hours are 5 – 10 hours per month and accommodation and travel are also covered by the Department where appropriate

Your business might be interested in providing one or both services types. The likely timeframe is from February 2026 through to September 2027.

The work is stimulating, clinically interesting and professionally challenging with opportunities to further develop in general medicine, acute presentations and long-term condition management.

You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team providing care to prisoners with high physical and mental health needs. The work suits medical practitioners with experiences in general practice, urgent care, acute medical assessment and management, long term condition management, primary mental health care.
