The Health and Safety function is a critical element of both the operational and strategic activities of Council and carries significant legislative responsibilities. The variety of tasks undertaken by Council staff and contractors mean that the management and monitoring of the function is a complex and difficult exercise. Non-compliance with Health and Safety legislation carries risks to individuals through injury or harm and, potentially, prosecution for the organisation and named individuals where serious breaches are involved. Currently, Council has no single coordinated system to support the Health and Safety management and monitoring activity.

The lack of a coordinated system brings risk to the organisation through an inability to monitor, coordinate and report on activities as well as the potential for errors and omissions through double handling and data entry. Significant staff time is spent maintaining records and manually progress chasing to ensure that required activities are undertaken.

Council is looking to purchase a system to provide recording, management and monitoring functionality for the Health and Safety function right across the organisation.
