Whangarei District Council (WDC) are reviewing the provision of their airport management services. They have engaged The Integral Group Limited (TIGL) to assist with this process.

The process will be a two staged open market process:
 Registration of Interest (ROI)
 Request for Proposal (RFP)

This ROI is the first formal step in the process and is intended to be of minimal effort for respondents and allow WDC to create a short list of suppliers to invite to enter the RFP process.

Other key points include:
 Whangarei airport the airport is a gateway to the Northland region
 it is located on the Onerahi Peninsula on the Whangarei Harbour, 8 kilometres from the city centre
 the airport currently handles about 95,000 passengers a year based on four flights per day, six days a week (subject to change)
 there are about 30 current leases based on airport land. These include:
 cafe
 rental car companies
 private hanger sites
 sports fields
 there is a potential airport location change in the long term 10 year horizon
 Whangarei Airport land is under treaty claim
