Overview

The University of Auckland (UoA) is New Zealand’s largest and most research-intensive university. Founded in 1883 and located in Auckland, the University is a comprehensive, internationally connected institution committed to excellence in teaching, learning and research.
With over 12,000 staff and postgraduate students engaged in fundamental and applied research, the University generates substantial research income and delivers significant impacts at local, national and global levels. UoA hosts multiple large-scale research institutes, trans-disciplinary centres and global partnerships that address major societal, technological and environmental challenges.
To maintain its leadership in computational research, data-intensive science and artificial intelligence (AI) applications, the University seeks to procure high-performance Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) and associated infrastructure as the basis for a new Research AI GPU platform. This investment will support a broad range of research activities across faculties and institutes, including those developing and applying machine learning, deep learning, and generative AI methods.
Through this Request for Purchase, the University invites qualified suppliers to propose solutions that fulfill a range of hardware, software and support requirements and meet the procurement goals, including underpinning its computational AI research capability, providing for implementation support, and supporting sustainability goals.
We have a goal to purchase the initial phase within 2025. This supports the establishment of the Research AI cluster with initial hardware, software and implementation services. Responding to this fuller RFP lays the platform foundations for future subsequent purchases, with potential for a preferred supplier as an outcome of this RFP.
