Overview

Selwyn District Council (SDC) is seeking proposals from consultants to provide professional design services for the Jones Road Pavement Improvement Project, located between Hoskyns Road and Weedons Ross Road.
This project forms part of the broader Rolleston Access Improvements (RAI) initiative and is strategically aligned with the upcoming construction of the SH1 Rolleston Flyover. Jones Road will serve as a critical freight and commuter route, particularly for heavy vehicles accessing the adjacent industrial zone. The existing pavement structure is inadequate for the anticipated traffic volumes and axle loads, posing risks to safety, efficiency, and economic productivity.
The objective is to complete the design by October 2025, with civil works programmed for the March–April 2026 sealing season. To meet this timeline, the tender for professional services will close on 15 August 2025.
The existing roadway alignment and width will remain unchanged. The proposed works include the construction of a new raised chip seal surface along Jones Road, extending from the rail slider to Weedons Ross Road. Vegetation within the road reserve berm will be cleared and trimmed to enable the formation of stormwater swales running parallel to the carriageway. Additionally, the section of Jones Road located west of the rail slider will be assessed through testing to determine whether pavement rehabilitation is required.
