Overview

he Contract Works are for the a like for like reconstruction of the Princes Arch, in compliance with Heritage New Zealand requirements. The scope includes:
Removal and reconstruction of the existing structure, as per the construction drawings.
Procurement and supply of genuine totara timber suitable for heritage construction.
Fabrication and construction of the new arch structure to its original design specifications.
Renewal and upgrading of foundations.
Reinstate of electrical services, including lighting and CCTV.
Ensuring the reconstructed structure will comply with stability, integrity, and durability.
Introduction
This project involves the renewal and reconstruction of the Princes Arch, a culturally and historically significant landmark located at the entrance of the Government Gardens in Rotorua. The Contract Works are to be completed preferably by Friday, 26 February 2027.

Background
Princes Arch is recognized for its rich cultural heritage and is subject to Category 2 structural requirements due to the rarity and cultural importance of totara timber used in its original construction in 1901 - Heritage New Zealand - Prince's Arch and Gateway The structure has shown significant deterioration as a result of timber decay and age, presenting safety risks to the public and threatening the preservation of an important heritage asset.
