Queenstown Lakes District Council is seeking an experienced contractor to undertake upgrades of the Frankton Beach Pump Station, Rec Ground Pump Station and construct a new pressure main between Park Street and Frankton Beach Pump Station, including associated construction works.
The existing gravity main along Frankton track is a high criticality asset. The sewer main is nearing capacity and carries a risk of untreated wastewater overflowing to the receiving natural environment (including Lake Whakatipu) in heavy rainfall events or natural disaster.
Additional wastewater conveyance capacity between Queenstown CBD and Frankton Beach Pump Station is required to maintain levels of service and support projected demand growth in the area. A new pressure sewer main to run adjacent to the existing pipeline has been identified as the preferred solution.
Improvements to the track will be made as part of the wastewater pipeline installation (e.g., strategic widening, stormwater management, pause-points etc.)
The scope of work for the Frankton Track Wastewater Upgrade project includes:
• Construction of a new pressure wastewater pipe from Cecil Road to Frankton Beach Pump Station (FBPS). Upgrade to the Recreation Ground Pump Station to convey wastewater through the new pressure main.
• Construction of upgrades to the Frankton Beach Pump Station to receive the new pressure main.
• Construction of upgraded stormwater systems to manage runoff from the track and catchments above.
• Construct amendments to the existing track from Cecil Road through to the Frankton Beach Pump Station where they are required to facilitate the new pressure wastewater pipe and/or stormwater systems.
• Construction of 6 pause points as outlined in the Urban and Landscape Design Framework (ULDF) dated 15 October 2021.
