Overview

New Zealand Police specialist groups use ballistic shields daily as a means of protection from a range of ammunition types. This request relates to a replacement program for current shields that are near their end of operational serviceability. An initial purchase of circa 25 shields will be a priority and subject to a tender process, with further requirements as other shields also expire.

New Zealand Police is needing to replace a range of ballistic shields. This project is at an early scoping stage to establish what’s contemporary and available on the world market. The requirements below are not exhaustive and the priority for any submission is the protection of our Operators.

The results of this RFI document will be used to:
• Gather information around what options are available in the world market.
• Identify options to include but not limited to:
• Protection levels
• Life/expiry/warranty period
• Country of origin (where its actually made)
• What’s its made of.
• Weight
• Size
• Functions, team protection or individual protection, noting Police will consider small individual shields through to larger man-size shields.
• Internal/External use.
• Carriage system
• Accessories available including lighting, windows, recording capability.
• What other law enforcement agencies are using it, if known.
• Obtain indicative pricing for business case purposes.
• Refine our business requirements as necessary using the information
