The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) is inviting submissions of ROIs to provide specialist services to reinstate and repair sections of the basalt stone sea wall at the South Yard at Devonport Naval Base, Auckland.

A condition survey of the sea wall was undertaken in May 2013 and this identified that the stability of the wall has been affected by waves penetrating the sea wall. This has occurred where concrete grouting around the basalt rocks has broken away over a period of some years and the sea has washed out the reclaimed land behind the wall, causing localised slumping.

Repair of the wall, including grouting of voids, replacement of blocks and regrouting of joints will be sufficient to extend the life of the sea wall.

The works will include:

> Working on the sea wall with due regard to site access and safety and tidal constraints to access the base of the sea wall;
> Provision of all required materials;
> Temporary removal of basalt blocks where necessary for repair, pending replacement;
> Removal of loose retained material or recompaction, as necessary prior to grouting;
> Grouting of cavities;
> Replacement/repositioning of blocks and regrouting of joints.
