Overview

The COVID-19 Vaccine Strategy Taskforce is an all-of-government approach to ensure New Zealand’s access to enough quantities of safe and effective vaccines at the earliest possible time. Part of this
taskforce is the COVID-19 Vaccine and Immunisation Programme which is responsible for delivering a safe and effective COVID-19 immunisation programme in New Zealand.

Further, this programme aims to make best use of vaccines to support the immediate health response and help achieve the COVID-19 Vaccine Strategy longer-term outcomes. The programme will use New
Zealand’s capacity and expertise to deliver on the immunisation strategy and roll out any vaccines that are purchased as part of New Zealand’s portfolio purchasing approach.

A critical responsibility of the programme is to establish a robust supply chain that can successfully deliver vaccines and consumables to the immunisation site. New Zealand has entered into a number of
Advanced Purchase Agreements (APAs), which includes vaccines that need to be stored at ultra-low temperature (ULT) of -70C.

A key element of the programme’s supply chain is distribution of vaccines and consumables from warehouse to providers.

The Ministry of Health is seeking to partner with a distributor who can meet the challenging and changing requirements of vaccine and consumable distribution.
