The Ministry of Health requires a provider to work with at risk communities to tackle weight loss via a variety of diet and lifestyle changes. The provider will be required to deliver a weight management service based in the community that will provide on-going, on-line, group based or one-to-one support to people at high risk of developing diabetes or CVD for a period of six months.
The intention of this service is to provide a food-based diet (supplements or shakes are not intended to be offered as part of this programme) with information regarding balanced healthy eating, portion control and sustainable behaviour change. This pilot service is intended to create a sustainable weight management programme with peer review than is currently available. The aim is to link participants and their weight loss journey with their primary care provider within their local community.
