Overview

The intent of the new programme to support beginner principals |tumuaki is to provide a coherent package of voluntary support for principals | tumuaki in their first three (3) years in the role. While voluntary, this can support a principal’s | tumuaki professional growth cycle. This support will have an intense two (2) year phase followed by one (1) year supported transition to local and regional support structures e.g., Leadership Advisor support, principal’s associations and local networks.

The programme of support will be designed using a three (3) tiered delivery model: self-directed, guided and targeted. Participants will have access to all three tiers with the level and depth of engagement determined by the participant’s individual needs. We expect that most beginning principals | tumuaki will engage in all levels of support in the first two (2) years, in particular, the targeted 1-1 coaching, and transition to more local and regional support systems by the end of their second year in the programme.

The guided tier of support involves the supplier organising and delivering online and face to face workshops involving groups of beginning principals | tumuaki engaging in a specific activity or topic. This delivery supports beginning principals | tumuaki through activities and topics that strongly benefit from aspects of collaboration and peer support.

Tier 3 will be 1:1 coaching between the providers’ facilitators and the beginning principal | tumuaki. This coaching will include the development of a personal growth cycle for each beginning principal | tumuaki and monitoring and support alongside their cycle.
The current ratio for this offering is 1:18, that is one (1) facilitator/coach to eighteen (18) beginning principals | tumuaki. We anticipate that the new programme will be at least at this ratio.
