MBIE’s Sustainability Framework is a programme of initiatives that create change and reduce our operational emissions in line with the effort needed to prevent global temperatures from rising beyond 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Transitioning MBIE’s vehicle fleet from fuel-driven to electric vehicles will substantially increase the sustainability of MBIE’s fleet by reducing fuel consumption and CO2-emissions. The programme of work to transition the existing fleet provides an opportunity to optimise MBIE’s vehicle fleet to a fit for purpose, low emissions, right sized pool of vehicles.
MBIE will shortly be procuring 35 BEV/PHEV light passenger vehicles from suitable supplier(s) that can provide competitive pricing, a guaranteed buy back price and vehicle replacement, storage options while the vehicles are fitted out to meet MBIE’s health and safety requirements and driving training. The vehicles will be chosen with key factors being price, driving range, size and comfort, availability and serviceability by local suppliers.
The intention is that the 35 BEV/PHEV purchased in the first stagged implementation will replace 31 IEC, 3 petrol/hybrid and 1 existing BEV vehicles. There is no intention to increase the size of the light vehicle fleet
