Overview

This is a Future Procurement Opportunity (FPO) listing.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (the Ministry) is the lead agency for co-ordination of the Refugee Resettlement Strategy (the Strategy), a whole of government approach to delivering improved resettlement outcomes for quota refugees that arrive in New Zealand as part of the Refugee Quota Programme. The Ministry also leads the settlement of Afghani evacuees in New Zealand following their escape from Afghanistan after its fall to the Taliban regime in September 2021.

Included in the work of the Strategy is the purchase of good value and good quality, core household furniture and curtaining for the homes of quota refugee and evacuee families. Providing this service is an important part of the Government’s desire to ensure quota refugees and evacuees feel welcome and appreciated in their new country.

The Ministry will be approaching the market shortly to engage a provider to support with the supply of the required furniture. As well as sourcing all goods required, the provider will be responsible for timely delivery, storage and assembly and fitting of furniture and curtaining in all 14 resettlement locations. To achieve this, the provider will work closely with Ministry staff based at Te Āhuru Mōwai o Aotearoa, Immigration New Zealand’s Mangere Refugee Resettlement Centre, and with local refugee resettlement agencies in each location.

The Ministry estimates it will be purchasing furniture and curtaining for 590 to 660 households during the 22/23 year, reducing to 350 to 420 households annually in following years. Families will be settled in 14 resettlement locations throughout New Zealand.

For this procurement, the Ministry is interested in individual bids that can provide the entire range of good value and good quality furniture and curtaining. Important features of the procurement are the timely delivery of all goods purchased and flexibility in responding to changes in demand in the foreseeable future.

The Ministry anticipates an RFP release in February 2022. Please note all this is all the information we can provide at this stage, and all future documentation will be posted on GETS linked to this FPO if and when appropriate.
