Overview

The New Zealand Cabinet has approved the establishment of Te Kāhui Whakamana Rua Tekau mā Iwa, the Pike River Recovery Agency (PRRA). It will be stood up on 31 January 2018 and it will create and, if feasible, execute a plan for manned re-entry of the Pike River coal mine drift. The first task for the PRRA will be to undertake an assessment of, and where possible, how safe recovery of the drift may be undertaken.
The planning process is likely to entail technical experts, as engaged via this RFP, identifying any feasible recovery methodologies, conducting risk assessment processes and costing any feasible plan. If a feasible methodology for safely recovering the drift is confirmed, develop a detailed plan.
