The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (the Ministry) is working with the Ministry for the Environment (MfE) to develop a National Policy Statement on Urban Development Capacity (NPS-UDC), to be issued under the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA).
This National Policy Statement will help ensure that planning decisions provide sufficient development capacity to meet demands for housing and business space. As part of this, it will require local authorities to monitor prices signals, to better understand property markets and enable them to provide for public needs. MBIE is seeking a report on a range of property price signals and the benefits, costs, feasibility, interpretation and utility to local and central government of local authorities monitoring these.
