This RFT is issued by KiwiRail through its Infrastructure – Project Delivery Team for the purpose of engaging a suitably qualified and experienced Contractor to carry out the physical works of Bridge 187 MNL Renewal project.

The Bridge 187 Renewal Project involves the complete replacement of Bridge 187 on the Main North Line (MNL) with a box culvert structure in a critical freight and passenger corridor within KiwiRail’s national network. The existing structure has reached the end of its service life, and the renewal is required to ensure long term network resilience, safety, and operational reliability.

The project will deliver a modernised structure designed in accordance with current standards and performance requirements. The design has been completed by Aurecon and signed off by KiwiRail’s Professional Head – Structures. Construction works will take place within an operational rail environment, requiring careful planning, staging, and coordination to minimise disruption to rail services and adjacent landowners.

When complete, the renewed bridge will improve asset condition, reduce maintenance demand, and support KiwiRail’s programme of ongoing investment in core network infrastructure. The project will also incorporate environmental management requirements and consent conditions issued by Marlborough District Council (U260035), ensuring compliance with all statutory obligations.

The scope of this Contract covers the full physical renewal of Bridge 187 MNL, including all associated temporary and permanent works required to complete construction in accordance with the issued design package and statutory requirements.
