Overview

The Wellington Metro Upgrade Programme (WMUP) is issuing this Request for Tender on behalf of KiwiRail’s Capital Projects and Asset Development team. WMUP is a rolling programme of work on the Wellington metro rail network to address deferred maintenance (catch up) and to provide new levels of capacity and performance (upgrades) with the objective of delivering a safe and reliable metro rail network that meets current and future customer expectations in the Wellington region.

The Metro Substations Upgrade project is to enable the new RS1 train timetable as proposed by Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC). Due to the planned increase in electric trains, KiwiRail need to construct five new substations to improve resilience and reliability for the power requirements for the new timetable. We wish to obtain the services of an electrical contractor who can deliver and install the new prefabricated buildings. The work will be primarily mid-week but there will be requirements to work weekends during ‘Block of Lines’ (BoL) to complete some of the scope within the rail corridor.

We are seeking a supplier with strong capability and experience in successfully delivering substation build projects and who has proven in-house capability to deliver electrical fitout works and undertake testing and commissioning activities. Suppliers will be expected to deliver the works in collaboration with KiwiRail teams, therefore a commitment to collaborative working is expected. We have a strong commitment to safety and expect our suppliers to show the same commitment, both in the planning and delivery of our projects. It is important that the supplier can provide sufficient resources and meet key project deadlines
