KiwiRail, in partnership with the New Zealand Government, is developing the Auckland Signalling Capacity Improvement (“ASCI”) Project, which aims to increase the capacity of the Auckland Metropolitan Rail Network (AMEN) to meet the expected growth in demand for passenger and freight services over the next 10-15 years, particularly after the City Rail Link opens in 2026.

A Detailed Business Case (DBC) is currently being prepared to explore option/s to improve capacity, resilience, and reliability across Auckland’s Metro rail network by investment in digital technology signalling and prior to investment in major civil infrastructure programmes.

KiwiRail is issuing this Request for Information ("RFI”) to obtain information from suppliers of railway signalling equipment in order to inform the DBC financial and commercial cases, in order to improve the robustness of the DBC preferred option recommendations to Government. It does not form part of any formal procurement process that may subsequently occur if the ASCI project is authorised by Government
