The Wellington Metro Upgrade Programme (WMUP) is issuing this Request for Tender on behalf of KiwiRail’s Capital Projects and Asset Development team. WMUP is a rolling programme of work on the Wellington metro rail network to address deferred maintenance (catch up) and to provide new levels of capacity and performance (upgrades) with the objective of delivering a safe and reliable metro rail network that meets current and future customer expectations in the Wellington region.
The Metro Substations Upgrade project is to enable the new RS1 train timetable as proposed by Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC). Due to the planned increase in electric trains, KiwiRail need to construct five new substations to improve resilience and reliability for the power requirements for the new timetable. We wish to obtain the services of a civil contractor who can deliver the building platforms, utilities ducting, earthworks, stormwater and drainage at each of the new substation buildings sites. The work will be primarily mid-week but there will be requirements to work weekends during ‘Block of Lines’ (BoL) to complete some of the scope within the rail corridor.
We are seeking a reliable civil contractor with the capability, experience, and resources to deliver the civil works. Flexibility is critical, as the project spans five separate sites, and the ability to mobilise resources to each site as needed, and to provide them during weekend BoL’s is essential.
