Overview

The Pukekohe to Papakura (P2P) area is a 19km two-track (or 38 single track km STK) section of the North Island Main Truck (NIMT) in South Auckland. The corridor is shared between freight, passenger, and regional rail services; freight has two component parts, intercity/island operations and the ‘golden triangle’ between Westfield, Hamilton and Tauranga, while the passenger service currently operates a 3tph peak service between Pukekohe and Papakura using a diesel fleet.

The scope of P2P is to re-signal the route to immunise it in readiness for electrified operations. The route is split between five new scissors / crossover locations installed for efficient freight and passenger operations and to build in resilience into the network for disrupted mode operations and access for future renewals and maintenance activities. The proposed signalling system will become part of the Auckland Network.

The existing Up and Down Mains will be electrified from the end of the Auckland Electrified Area south of Papakura to the southern end of Pukekohe. Pukekohe Junction will be rearranged and electrified, and the stabling facility will be electrified for Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) operations.

The scope of the project also includes an additional power supply at Drury, with power taken from the Drury Grid Exit Point (GXP), along a road route delivered by Counties Power, and into a KiwiRail substation on the rail corridor. The delivery of this power supply is not only required for the extension of the network, but is essential to provide additional power supply into the Auckland Electrified Area (AEA) to support AT’s increase in the EMU fleet and further increased operation upon commencement of CRL operations

We are intending to procure the following packages of work:

• CW01 Package including all Civil works at the Pukekohe Station.

• CW02 Package including all building and structures works at Pukekohe Station.

• CW03 Open route civils:
Package 1 including open route civil works for Drury Central Station.
Package 2 including open route civil works for Drury West and Paerata Stations.

We are looking for suitably skilled and experienced contractors who will work with the P2P project team and the wider KiwiRail team to deliver all tasks on time, within budget, with upmost importance placed on Health & Safety, Supplier Diversity and with a strong focus on communication and collaboration.
