In late 2020, KiwiRail and Port Marlborough engaged with the market on the Waitohi Picton Ferry Precinct Opportunity. At the time we expressed our preference to procure a pure Alliance for the delivery of the design and construction of terminal assets at Port Marlborough.

Since our previous engagement with the market a number of developments have been made, including:
• KiwiRail confirming its partnership with Hyundai Mipo Construction Limited for the delivery of two new, fit-for-purpose Interislander Vessels to replace the existing Interislander fleet,
• KiwiRail, CentrePort and Port Marlborough have confirmed the concept design for our respective terminal infrastructure, and
• The timeframe for the delivery of vessels and port-side infrastructure has been confirmed.

In light of this, KiwiRail and Port Marlborough are no longer seeking an Alliance Partner as our preferred approach to delivering this once in a generation investment in critical infrastructure for New Zealand.

KiwiRail, CentrePort and Port Marlborough are working together to refine our approach for the delivery of the Terminal infrastructure. At this stage, it is our intention to seek a single design partner for the delivery of the Terminals Design Services.

Following the completion of the procurement for a design partner a separate process or processes will be conducted to secure a construction and delivery partner(s) for the Terminal assets at Kaiwharawhara Wellington and Waitohi Picton.
