Waiwhakareke is a 60 ha natural Heritage Park within the urban context of Hamilton City. Its vision is to restore and recreate the pre-European native plant and animal communities that once existed within the Waikato basin. Restoration within Waiwhakareke has many goals including education, tourism and linking Hamilton Zoo’s conservation and education programmes. In the initial Management Plan (operative 2011), it was the intention to protect the Park with a predator exclusion fence in the future. The overarching goals for the Waiwhakareke restoration programme include:
• Complete a world class ecological island with an urban environment
• Restore and protect flora and fauna to mirror the pre-1800’s landscape
• Connect with the Zoo education programme and
• Become a world class visitor destination.
The purpose of this Procurement process is to ensure equitable opportunity to bid for supply and installation of a predator proof fence at Waiwhakareke Natural Heritage Park is provided to all experienced predator proof fence suppliers in New Zealand.
The proposed process for this procurement is to complete an ‘open’ competitive RFT for the supply of and implementation of a specific design predator proof fence including pedestrian and vehicle access points, a basic fence line service track and culverts where required.
The project scope is to utilize approved predator proof fence design documentation to construct a 4-kilometre long 2m high mouse proof wire mesh fence that effectively follows the park boundary. Pedestrian and vehicle entry points will be located on 3 sides of the park with proprietary cleaning stations at each point of entry. The project will construct a basic service track along the fence line where required and install 3 x culverts where the fence crosses low laying areas.
The RFT document will include detailed drawings and engineering reports
