Housing New Zealand (HNZ) in collaboration with the Department of Corrections has undertaken the refurbishment of houses at Rolleston prison. The houses have now been completed and require relocation and siting onto designated HNZ sites in the Christchurch area. Siting will be onto ready-made foundations provided by HNZ Contractor (s).
HNZ requires a Contractor (s) with the requisite capability, track record and capacity to relocate dwellings. Contractor(s) also need the ability to complete landscaping, fencing, works and the connections of all services. HNZ may select a single provider or establish a panel of providers, subject to senior approval of the recommended approach resulting from this ROI process.
HNZ will not accept Contractors without a proven track record in this area.
HNZ requires Contractors that will work collaboratively in order to successfully meet our requirements. As a dual Government agency initiative, it is imperative that this work continues to support the wider Christchurch rebuild programme. This programme of work is of the highest priority to both agencies.
This package of work represents a significant portion of the rebuild programme for HNZ. It is a high profile project as HNZ seeks an innovative approach to addressing the housing shortage in Christchurch. Recycling homes from the Red Zone provides an efficient and timely use of housing resource. The employment of prisoners in the refurbishment of these houses, helps them gain new skills for use, on their return to their communities.
HNZ has a vision to be the social housing provider of choice. HNZ is one of the country's largest asset managers and is responsible for managing over 67,000 properties which house over 200,000 people.
The Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Team (CERT) is tasked with the repair of 5000 houses and the development of 700 new homes. The work undertaken within this project contributes to the rebuild and recovery of Christchurch.
